Causes

The root causes for an alarm in a plant is displayed In tab 'Root causes'. Multiple root causes can be displayed. The user can 'Like' () a root cause to assign a higher weighting. Root causes with the most 'Likes’ are displayed at the top of the root causes list.
Define root causes for an alarm with programming knowledge
Root causes are set in the Rule Editor or Scripting Editor. This requires access to the 'Rule Editor' or the 'Scripting Editor'. Root causes are created in both tools using simple programming tools from predefined program blocks.
- For Rule Editor: See section 'Menu Rule Editor'.
- For Scripting Editor: See section 'Scripting editor'.
Set root causes for an alarm without programming knowledge
Another option is to configure an alarm type to assign the alarm type to an alarm. Function 'Create alarm type' offers a low-threshold configuration option without programming knowledge and without requiring access to the 'Rule Editor' or 'Scripting Editor'.
- See section 'Create alarm type'. Under 'Root causes'.
- Prerequisite: Pre-programmed root causes exist and can be assigned to an alarm.
Note: If causes are created for an alarm in one of the two tools 'Rule Editor' or 'Scripting Editor' as well as in the 'Alarm type' function, the root cause from the tool has priority over the root cause from the 'Alarm type' function.
- Root causes from a programming tool overwrite root causes from the 'Alarm type’ function.
Tab 'Root causes': Weigh root causes
